THESE are my ABSOLUTE favorite kinds of bibs. I like lots of coverage & I LOVE towel fabric. I DO NOT LIKE plastic bibs. First of all because I don't like plastic very much, we have enough of it all around us all the time, and having it around a baby's neck just does not appeal to me; and second of all towel bibs are simply more 'green', I love to wash laundry & hang it on the line.....especially baby items!
So, I've meant to create another fun 'tutorial' on how to turn a cute finger towel into a lovely baby bib since March, but as usual, I have a great many 'plans' that usually don't get carried out....however, that's okay with me (; I'm busy for good reason (: So I'll just post a couple picks & you can get the idea (:
This is a finger-tip towel from $1.00 Target bin with circle drawn for neck hole. The tendency here is to make the hole too big which makes the bib too loose around the baby's neck & doesn't serve it's purpose very well. Think: baby's necks are really small.....!

Sew ribbed knit into the circle stretching ribbed knit as you go. The knit will turn inward & when you go to put it over baby's head it will stretch nicely!
HOWEVER, once your baby learns to pull the bib off of him/herself at around 10-11 months old.....you'll find youself, like I did, wanting to switch to something different.
THIS is a very cool bib & I have been making some for Levin.

The red one pictured above is actually the one I used to trace to make my own pattern. I purchased it at a store in Knoxville & was totally thinking I would NOT like it - afterall, what better bib could there be other than my above mentioned absolute favorite?! BUT, when Levin started pulling off my favorite bibs every 3-5 seconds.....I decided, instead of giving up completely on bibs, as I have done in the past, & letting the kids clothes get really bad, I would pull this one out of the closet & give it a try. Was I pleasantly surprised! Yay! It ties around the neck & is much like a smock apron. It covers a ton on the body & even over the shoulders. Yay! So, I traced the one I purchased & make several of my own. The brown one pictured is one I made & is slightly bigger than the red one (probably because of tracing). Anyway, I was surfing whipup.net
tonight & saw that someone posted a tutorial on how t0 make one......how IRONIC. Isn't it really weird when stuff like this happens? It seems to happen to me all the time.
These ones are super fast & fun to make! I went to Good Will & bought 4 hand towels for $0.79 each. (seems kinda expensive for GW don't you think? - but nevertheless....cheaper than new & I'm recycling/repurposing - right?)
